Gothtober Readathon TBR

Hello human people!

Throughout the month of October Ladette, Olivia, and Tish will be hosting the Gothtober Readathon! This readathon will have a bunch of cool activities so check out their Twitter thread with all the info.

I am super excited to take part of this readathon! The prompts are great and I will be taking this time to read more Gothic literature but if you want to participate you can pick any books that fill the prompts!

Disability rep: I’m going to be reading A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. This is a super popular Beauty And The Beast retelling that I haven’t picked up yet so this readathon is the perfect opportunity.

BIPOC: For this prompt I will be listening to the audiobook for Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I have been meaning to read this forever but am just getting out of a reading slump.

Bones: I will be reading The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones for this prompt! This book have rising corpses, gravedigger main character, curses, and a trek through mountains, it sounds like October would be the best time to read this!

Oldest purchased: I think The Picture of Dorian Gray was the first classic I ever bought but I have never picked it up to read it, which is a problem that I will fix in October! Also I plan on listening to the audiobook for this narrated by Ben Barnes because I feel like I really need Ben Barnes to read to me at least once in my life.

Red and LGBTQ+: I will be doubling up on prompts for this one cause I have needed to read Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu and watch the show forever! Lesbian vampires are something I need in my life! (I’m pretty sure the author said he doesn’t see this as a lesbian story but he can suck it)

Modern Retelling and Lies: I will be doubling up on prompts for Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. I will be listening to the audiobook for this one because I believe its very centered on aesthetic which is one of my favorite things about a book.

Foreign Country: Melmoth by Sarah Perry is set in Prague and follows a translator who disappears after finding a letter, a very strange confession and a warning.

Dark Academia: If We Were Villains by M.L Rio is one of my favorite books and I really want to reread and annotate it! It also fits my dark and death kind of vibes I’m going for during this readathon!

Female protagonist: Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre is yet another classic I have been meaning to pick up but haven’t cause I am deathly afraid of classics.

Grey Morality and Undead Character: I always feel like a fraud for not finishing Frankenstein. I mean Mary Shelley started science fiction, even though it’s not my favorite genre you gotta respect this Gothic queen.

Vampire film/TV: The last prompt is just a challenge which is to watch a film or show which has vampires so I will be watching Only Lovers Left Alive. This is the first thing that popped into my mind when I read this prompt and I will neither confirm or deny that it’s cause I have been rewatching Druck.

That’s all the books I plan on reading for the readathon! Hopefully, I can get to all of them, and hopefully, I will start posting more on this blog! I also might start vlogging and vlog this readathon…

Thank you so much and I hope everyone is doing well during these times!
